Mahama Announces Amendment to Public Procurement Law

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to review the Public Procurement Law to limit the use of sole sourcing contracts.
This follows an observation of the abuse of sole sourcing.
Addressing Civil Society Organisations at the Jubilee House on Monday evening, said the move was to promote transparency and ensure proper value for money.
He said this while addressing concerns on the use of single sourcing in the award of contracts under the flagship Big Push project.
“While sole sourcing is legal, under certain circumstances under our current procurement law, we will all agree that open, transparent tenders are always preferable for achieving competitive pricing and value for money.”
He disclosed a directive for his office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate on the allegation for a study of the various allegations presented in the report, as well as a response from the Minister for Roads and Highways.
This, he said, would inform the government’s action on the matter.
