Macron-led France Is Revamping Relations With Africa- Envoy

French envoy to Ghana, H.E Jules-Armand Aniambossou, says President Emmanuel Macron’s administration has deviated from its traditional collaborative strategy with Africa.
According to him, the decision to overhaul and revamp bilateral relations with Africa followed the lapses in the previous strategy.
“Since Emmanuel Macron came to power, we are trying to rebuild our relationship with the African continent: to learn from the best, to listen first and not to dictate. The previous {strategy} didn’t work,” he told Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene on June 6, 2025.
The European country is now focused on a collaboration that is grounded in mutual respect, reciprocity and parity, he relayed.
With regard to Ghana, H.E. Aniambossou admitted that the trade relations needed adjustments as he agreed that the cordial relations must transcend into economic transformation.
“We can be good brothers but at the end of the day, we have to contribute to the social transformation of our populations.”
Otumfuo acknowledged the strengthening of Ghana-France ties under President Macron’s regime.
“The relationship has been very good, especially during President Macron’s time with visits of our heads of state and the support and collaboration France has been giving to Ghana in security and everything. It’s something we appreciate.”
That notwithstanding, His Majesty underscored that there was room for improvement as he communicated his expectations.
“Look at the investment of France in Ivory Coast. Why can’t I get something like that here for me? Because they speak French and I don’t? It can be done here…I will encourage you to do that for me especially because you are my son and you are the Ambassador of France. During your duty tour, I’m looking forward to enhancing the development of our two nations.”
The King cited agriculture, mining, education and infrastructure as viable areas for French investment and collaboration.
“All those areas are places we think we can collaborate together…It’s heartening to hear France now seeks to move from dictating to collaboration.”
The Occupant of the Golden Stool concluded by assuring that Ghana was a haven for investment due to its stability and peace
