Low Generational Capacity Is the Major Cause of Power Fluctuations – COPEC
Mr. Sampson Addae, the Research, Pricing, and Monitoring Officer for the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), has attributed the frequent power fluctuations in Ghana to low generational capacity.
He emphasised that although the country has power generation machines, the lack of requisite gas to operate efficiently is a major hindrance to the power sector.
“The Atuabo gas plant, which supplies gas to power generating companies in Ghana, is insufficient to cater to the country’s energy needs, and the supply of gas from Nigeria is not meeting expectations,” he added.
“Government must open up the country’s gas capacity to produce sufficient energy for the power sector”
He also urged the government to prioritise power stability by investing more in the solar system and expanding the energy sector.
