KMA To Demolish Kiosks Along Commercial Roads
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will after Friday, March 10 conduct a demolition exercise along commercial roads in the metropolis.
The demolition exercise will affect kiosks and containers in some earmarked areas.
The affected areas include the Western By-Pass (Abrepo Junction to Santasi Round-about); Southern By-pass (Santasi to Ahodwo); Eastern by-Pass (Asokwa Interchange to Anloga Junction); Old Bekwai Road; New Bekwai Road; and Ministries Area, Adum.
It will also affect the Ridge Danyame and Residential Area; Hudston Road; Kumasi-Barekese; Kumasi-Ejisu Road; Kumasi-Mampong Road; Kumasi-Antoa Road; Kumasi-Sunyani Road; Kumasi-Lake Road; and Kumasi Sports Stadium and its environs.
This comes after the Assembly noted with concern the proliferation of kiosks and containers in the city, a release by the Public Relations Department of the KMA dated March 9 said.
It said these kiosks were placed there without planning approval and permission and will, therefore, be demolished by the Spatial Planners Committee.
Ahead of the demolition exercise, the owners of such shops have been given up until Friday, March 10 to voluntarily remove them.
“The affected public is advised to comply or have its assigned agents demolish and surcharge them for the cost of the demolition”, a part of the statement said.
It will be recalled that during the last sitting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs last year, Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, raised concerns about the establishment of kiosks along principal roads in the region.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, assured him measures will be put in place to deal with the menace.
