KATH Awaits Asantehene’s Return to Lead Fundraising Campaign
Mr. Kwame Frimpong, the Head of Public Relations at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, has announced that the hospital is eagerly awaiting the return of the King of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, from Scotland.
His return will mark the launch of a crucial fundraising campaign to renovate the hospital, although the specific launch date is yet to be determined.
“We are waiting for Otumfuo to lead fundraising to renovate the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He has travelled. The date for the fundraising has not been set though… We want it to be transparent, we will have a system to monitor all contributions.”
In an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantannanso with Kofi Boakye on September 14, Mr Frimpong, emphasized that KATH, despite serving 12 regions, has not seen any significant renovation since its establishment.
He highlighted the hospital’s central location, making it easily accessible to other regions, and its pivotal role as a training center for both medical and nursing students.
The commitment to renovate the hospital was made by Otumfuo Osei Tutu during a courtesy visit by a delegation from KATH on August 24, 2023.
As part of the legacy projects commemorating the 25th Anniversary of his enstoolment as Asantehene next year, Blocks A, B, C, and D of KATH will undergo extensive renovations.
The ambitious fundraising campaign aims to secure $10 million to modernize the inpatient wards of KATH, ensuring they meet contemporary healthcare standards.
During the visit, the delegation also presented a comprehensive technical and financial proposal to guide the renovation of this 70-year-old health facility, seeking the invaluable support of the Asantehene in this noble endeavour.
