I’m Ordering Fugu in Bulk- Zambian President

The President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, has announced plans to order Ghanaian smocks in bulk for personal use.

Addressing the Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue on Friday morning in Lusaka, he said he had directed his officials to make the announcement public across social media platforms.

“I asked my team to post on various platforms that the President of Zambia will be ordering more of that stuff (Fugu) for myself.”

Admiring Ghana’s embrace of the traditional outfit, he underscored the unbreakable correlation between tradition and economic development.

“You {Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa} saved my words because you spoke very well about the importance of our culture and traditions. Look at the successful countries around the world. Just watch and see what you see inside them. Just see the Japanese. What they do is embedded in their culture.

“What do you see in their Germans? It’s embedded in their culture. What do you see in the Chinese? What do you see in the Indians? The expansion of their economy is anchored in their culture. Within the diversity of the Indian culture, you can see traits of what they are doing.”

It comes after Zambians mocked President Mahama’s outfit on his arrival in the country on Wednesday in a smock.

Social media users described it as a woman’s ‘blouse’, sparking mockery and lighthearted rebuttal from Ghanaians at home.
