I’m Disappointed Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Stepped Down – Joe Wise
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu popularly known as Joe Wise, says he is disappointed that Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has stepped down as majority leader in parliament. According to him, the former majority leader is a ‘fantastic’ leader the caucus should have kept until the end.
His reason is hinged on the fact that majority leader has been extremely hardworking, and judging his role and leadership, he wished he would stay on.
Though Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu appeared in the House, he moved from the chamber, declining an invitation to address the media.
Addressing the parliamentary press corps today after their leader is reported to have stepped down, the First Deputy Speaker said though he was disappointed, their caucus will take steps to fill his position.
He denied a media publication that the caucus has elected Alex Afenyo-Markin as the Majority Leader.
He added that the caucus will remain focused on achieving its objectives.
When asked whether he would accept becoming the Majority Leader, Osei Owusu opined that he was happy being the Deputy Speaker and not desirous of becoming Majority Leader.
He revealed that he was not at yesterday’s meeting with the President since he was busy doing something else.
He shot down the suggestion that the former Leader was forced to step down by stressing he stepped down himself, and anyone can do that at any time.
