I will Meet you in Court – K. T. Hammond to Gyakye Quayson

The Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Kobina Tahir Hammond, says he is not perturbed by a contempt charge leveled against him by the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

In an exclusive interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Parliamentary Correspondent, Kwaku Boffah, the minister said, “I have received the court summons, and I will meet them in court. Even though they played a game on me to serve me with the documents. Why will they have to do that? But I have accepted it.”

James Gyakye Quayson has, through his lawyer, filed a lawsuit citing K. T. Hammond for contempt in relation to alleged comments he made on Oyerepa TV regarding the former’s ongoing criminal trial at the High Court.

Quayson is currently facing charges of perjury and forgery related to his Canadian citizenship status at the time of filing his nomination forms for the 2020 parliamentary election.

The legal proceedings against him arose following a Supreme Court ruling that deemed the Electoral Commission’s decision to allow him to contest the 2020 polls without proof of renouncing his Canadian citizenship unconstitutional.
