GRIDCo Apologises For Saturday Nationwide Blackout

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has issued a statement apologising for last Saturday’s nationwide power outage which lasted for more than three hours.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused”, the statement said.

It further blamed faulty equipment on the Takoradi extension-Winneba Line for the total May 7, 2022 blackout.

GRIDCo says the faulty equipment caused the consequent shutdown of all generating plants in the Aboadze, Tema, Bui, and Kpong.

“This caused forced outages within the coastal corridor of the National Grid which led to power supply interruptions in some parts of the Greater Accra, Western/Central, Middle and Northern parts of the country”-

That notwithstanding, the Akosombo and Kpone Power Plants continued to function, the GRIDco noted.

It added that “restoration began immediately and supply was restored to all bulk supply points by 23:29h.

“GRIDCo assures its valued stakeholders that it will continue to work towards the provision of a reliable power system for Ghana’s socio-economic development.”
