GRA To Implement E-levy Fully From July 1

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced it will roll out the Electronic Transfer Levy in full from tomorrow, July 1, 2022.

The message was contained in a letter to the charging entities.

A part of the letter dated June 22, 2022 reads, “this is to officially remind you that the full implementation of the Electronic Transfer Levy starts on the 1st July 2022”.

It, therefore, charged the entities to integrate into the GRA’s Electronic Levy Management and Assurance System (ELMAS) by June 28 for Go Live by July 1, 2022.

The charging entities include Electronic money issuers, payment service providers, banks, specialised money-taking institutions, and other financial institutions prescribed by institutions made under the Electronic Transfer Levy Act, 2022 (Act 1075).

The 1.5% levy applies to mobile money transfers done between accounts on the same electronic money issuer; mobile money transfers from an account on one electronic money issuer to a recipient on another electronic money issuer; transfers from bank accounts to mobile money accounts; transfers from mobile money accounts to bank accounts; and Bank transfers on an instant pay digital platform or application originating from a bank account belonging to an individual subject to a daily threshold to be determined by the Minister of Finance.
