Government Enforces 5pm–6am Curfew in Nalerigu

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has ordered a curfew on Nalerigu township and surrounding communities in the North East Region following security advice from the National Security Council.
The restriction, issued through an Executive Instrument, takes effect from Thursday, December 18, 2025, and will run daily from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am.
In a statement released on December 18, the Ministry of the Interior called on traditional authorities, community leaders, youth groups and residents to remain calm and show restraint amid the current challenges confronting the area.
The ministry also encouraged the resolution of grievances through peaceful and non-violent means to help restore stability.
As part of the security measures, the government has imposed a complete prohibition on the possession of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within Nalerigu and its environs.
Anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
Additional restrictions announced by the government include a ban on the movement of motorbikes, the wearing of smocks, the sale of fuel in containers, and all forms of unlawful assembly.
