GNFS: We Have Received Two Million Prank Calls Within Four Months

Ghana National Fire Service has asserted that, the service has received two million prank calls within four months.

Speaking on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantananso show with Agudey, Assistant Chief Fire Officer 1(ACFO 1) Asafo Afum has explained that, most of the calls the service receives at the office are not worthy calls that seek to invite in their services but rather to deceive them.

“On the grounds, the service’s emergency lines are there to give way for those stuck in difficult situations to seek help from the Ghana National Fire Service but it seems to have turned down in most situations”.

He stated that, it might be that, callers might not be calling to prank them but might be due to the fact that a caller calling from a region different from the region of residence may end up not willing to communicate, as in the case of a resident of the Ashanti region calling the GNFS in the region only to have ended up in the Greater Accra region causes many of the callers not speaking to them.

ACFO 1, Osafo Afum cautioned the public, especially those involved in this irresponsible act to desist as the emergency lines are there for a purpose. He said, “If you are not stuck in a difficult situation don’t call to prank them”.

Osafo Afum has said that, the GNFS will soon start tracing such prank callers.

According to him, the GNFS will contact the Telco’s to retrieve prank callers’ information to be able to trace their whereabouts and if found shall be made to face the repercussions of the law.

ACFO1 Osafo Afum revealed that, this is among the measures employed to deal with prank callers.

He then cautioned prank callers to desist from such an act to escape the dangers ahead.
