NPA Scandal: OSP Opposes Mustapha Hamid’s Quest to Travel to Canada

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is seeking to stop Dr Mustapha Hamid, an accused person at the centre of an alleged corruption scheme at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), from travelling out of the country.
The former NPA Chief Executive is scheduled to travel to Canada to attend a political engagement, he told the court in an application seeking the release of his passport.
“Dr Hamid contends that the release of his passport is necessary to enable him to travel to Canada to attend a political engagement.”
The Republic, however, has opposed the application as he remains on the OSP’s stop list.
The Criminal High Court is scheduled to decide on the application on 13 November.
The accused person was ordered by the Court to surrender his passport as part of his bail conditions.
Mustapha, alongside nine others, are standing trial in connection with an ongoing GH¢291 million case involving allegations of extortion, abuse of office, and money laundering at the NPA.
