Ghana, Czech Republic Advance €48m Bridge Projects, Initiate Visa Waiver Talks

Ghana and the Czech Republic have agreed to accelerate cooperation on key infrastructure projects, including the revived €48 million bridge projects in Ghana.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the outcomes after holding talks with Czech Foreign Minister H.E. Petr Macinka in Prague on Sunday.

“I extend my sincerest appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, H.E. Petr Macinka, for hosting me warmly in Prague,” Mr Ablakwa posted on Facebook.

Infrastructure and Transport Deals
According to the Minister, both sides reviewed progress on bilateral cooperation with emphasis on stalled projects. The €48 million bridge projects, previously on hold, are now being revived.

He said talks are also advancing to expand VAMED hospitals across Ghana and to expedite ongoing negotiations for Czech buses to modernise Ghana’s public transport system.

“We held fruitful discussions focusing on our bilateral cooperation, including the revived €48million bridge projects in Ghana, expanding VAMED hospitals and expediting ongoing talks for buses to transform public transportation,” he said.

Visa Waiver Talks Begin
Mr Ablakwa added that Ghana and the Czech Republic have initiated discussions on a potential visa waiver agreement.

If concluded, the deal would ease travel for Ghanaian and Czech nationals holding diplomatic, service and possibly ordinary passports.

“Our two countries are also initiating discussions on a potential visa waiver agreement,” the Minister noted.

The Foreign Minister also thanked the Czech government and organisers of the GLOBSEC Forum for inviting him to speak on Africa’s place in the evolving global order.

He used the platform to present the demands of the Ghana-led coalition for reparatory justice.

“I thanked the Czech government and the organisers of GLOBSEC for inviting me to share my reflections on the importance of Africa in the evolving global order and the demands of the Ghana-led coalition for reparatory justice,” he said.

The engagement in Prague forms part of the government’s efforts to deepen economic diplomacy and attract strategic investment for national development.
