GES Suspends High School Sports in Central Region After Recent Violent Incidents

The Ghana Education Service has suspended all zonal inter-school sporting activities for Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools in the Central Region with immediate effect.
The decision comes after disturbing incidents of violence during recent athletics competitions, which authorities say endangered students, teachers, and spectators. The situation allegedly and tragically resulted in the death of a student from Obrachire Senior High School in Agona.
Before the suspension, Adisadel College had won Zone I of the athletics competition, qualifying alongside Edinaman Senior High School and Aggrey Memorial Senior High School, held at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The Zone II which was conquered by Kwanyarko Senior High School was also staged at the Swedru School of Business.
Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Juliette Dufie Otami, announced that the suspension will remain in force as management assesses the incidents and puts in place stronger safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
The Ghana Education Service says updates will be communicated after the review process, with the safety of students remaining its top priority.
