GES Releases 2023 Academic Calendar 

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic calendar for the 2023 academic year.

 

This comes almost a month after schools resumed in January 2023.

 

It is not known what accounted for the delay.

 

Calendar For JHS And Basic Schools

After reopening school on January 10, for the first term, Junior High School (JHS) students, Kindergarten (KG) and primary pupils will vacate on March 24.

 

Their vacation will spring from March 25 to April 2.

 

The second term will begin on April 3 and end on June 15, with a vacation slated from June 16 to June 26.

 

The last term will start on June 27 and end on September 14 for KG to JHS 2 students.

 

JHS 3 students will start the third term on June 27 and write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in September.

Single-Track Calendar For SHS 

Two calendars have been released for Senior High Schools (SHS): a single-track calendar and a double-track calendar

 

Under the single-track system, the GES said first-year students will begin the first semester on February 20 and end it on April 5 with a break from April 6 to 16.

 

The second semester will begin on April 17 to September 15.

 

Second-year students who began the current semester on January 10 will end it on April 5 with a vacation from April 6 to April 16.

 

Their second semester will begin on April 17 and end on August 25.

 

Final-year students who also began the semester on January 10 will end it on April 5 with a vacation from April 6 to 16.

 

Their second semester will begin on April 17 and end on June 1. They will be given a break from June 2 to 8 and then resume classes from June 9 to September 15.
