Blogger Granted ¢50k Bail after His Arrest for False Publication

An Accra Circuit Court has granted Samuel Amadotor, a blogger arrested for allegedly publishing false news, bail.
He was charged with publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic, contrary to Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), and publication of false news under Section 123 of the Electronic Transactions Act (Act 772).
He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail to the tune of GH¢50,000 with two sureties by the presiding judge, Her Ladyship Evelyn Asamoah.
The blogger was arrested for allegedly publishing false news against the former Board Chairman of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio.
According to a statement, he was arrested through a collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the National Signals Bureau (NSB).
A police statement on November 20 said he admitted to the offence and mentioned one Chairman Michael Yeboah as his contractor for the publication.
The police are on a manhunt for the said Michael to assist the investigation.
