Freda Prempeh Takes Over As Sanitation Minister
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed the Member of Parliament for Tano North constituency, Hon Freda Prempeh as the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.
The news was contained a press statement signed by the Director of Communication at the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin.
This comes after Cecilia Abena Dapaah resigned from her position as a result of a theft scandal that has entangled her.
In her resignation letter, Mrs Dapaah said she did not “want this matter to become a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.”
It was reported on Friday, July 21 that two house helps of the former Minister were facing charges before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing an amount of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis at her residence at Abelenkpe in Accra.
In a press statement ahead of her resignation, she asserted there are inconsistencies in the reports.
“There are noticeable inconsistencies between what is being discussed in the public domain and the thrust of the original complaint on the matter” and added steps are being taken to address the propagation of the falsehood.
“I am taking steps to examine the origins of the inconsistencies and will provide a detailed response in the coming days,” Mrs Dapaah said in a press statement dated July 21, in reaction to media reports on the theft.”
The Statement from the Presidency also noted that MP for Afigya Kwabre East, Hon Mavis Nkansah Boadu and MP for Tatale/Sanguli, Hon Thomas Mbomba have been appointed respectively as Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways.
It noted that these appointments take effect immediately.
