FDA Issues Alert On Drug Recalled In Nigeria
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned Ghanaians in possession of Polyfort suspension, a drug used for the treatment of hyperacidity, heartburn and indigestion.
Although the drug is not registered in the country, the Authority says anyone who stumbles across it in the country must contact them.
The drug was recalled from the market due to a “negative trend”, SWISS Pharma Nigeria Limited (Swipha), the Lagos-based pharmaceutical company announced last week.
It has, therefore, halted the distribution of the drug while all the products available in pharmacy shops are to be returned.
The exact defect with the product was withheld.
In response to this, Ghana’s FDA said its officials were actively manning the country’s ports of entry and markets to prevent infiltration of unregistered products.
It added, “Anyone who comes across the product in trade in Ghana should report to any of FDA’s offices across the country.”
