Fatawu Hamidu Leaves Medeama to Ply Career in Egypt
Black Stars player Fatawu Abdul Hamidu has left Medeama Sporting Club for El-Mahalla SC, the Yellow and Mauves confirmed on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
He will now ply his trade in Egypt’s second division after a failed Zamalek race for the prolific defender.
Wishing him well, the Tarkwa-based club expressed their gratitude to him for his contribution to the success of the club.
“Medeama SC is pleased to announce the transfer of Fatawu Hamidu to the Egyptian side, Ghazl El-Mahalla SC. We wish him the best in his new journey and thank him for his contributions to our club,” it said in a brief statement.
His contract with the new club runs until Jun 30, 2027, and is on record as one of the top signings of the club within this window.
Since his career began at Accra Lions, the 25-year-old has scored four goals and assisted seven times in his 71 appearances across all competitions.
At Medeama, he represented 46 times and scored thrice.
Hamidu earned a call-up to the Black Stars squad under the leadership of Coach Chris Hughton in September last year for friendlies after proving himself worthy at the club level.
The left-back replaced injured Baba Rahman and featured in Ghana’s game against Liberia. He was involved in a goal that saw the game end in a 3-1 win for Ghana during this debut.
The player also helped Medeama secure their maiden Ghana Premier League title in the 2022/2023 season.
