Famous Achimota Rastafarian Impressive WASSCE Result Goes Viral

Social media has been awash with copies of Tyrone Marghuy’s impressive West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result.

The student of Achimota Senior High School whose admission in 2021 generated a lot of controversy due to his dreadlocks, achieved straight As in the WASSCE.

The Science student recorded A1 in both core and elective subjects to the delight of the public.

A video of him checking his results on the internet yesterday showed the physically elated young man and his friends jumping up and down in beams of excitement.

He captioned the video on his X page, “Odds against odds. 8As bagged!! We did it family; we made it!”

The circulation of his results has brought back the memory of his struggles in entering the school as social media users bash the country’s Attorney General and the Achimota School for their seeming discrimination which ended with court action.

“It’s still baffling to me that Achimota school tried to challenge his admission due to his locs. How ironic. That’s how you win and quieten the post-colonial mindsets. Congratulations Tyrone Marhguy. Keep winning!” Ama K Abebrese tweeted.

Another posted, “Because of elitist arrogance and backward conservatism, a whole Attorney-General fought this extraordinarily brilliant boy in court to prevent him from gaining admission to Achimota. Shame on him and all who thought like him.”

“You guys remember Tyrone right, the Rastafarian kid with the Achimota School brouhaha? The dude scored 8As in the BECE. We are talking enough about it. Don’t judge a book by the cover indeed. Every Rasta is rooting for this guy!” one other added.

“Love to Rastafarian this should tell our educational leaders that it’s not hairstyle that will give you good head, they should stop canning students to go and barber and concentrate on good teachings, shame to Achimota SHS,” commented another.

Background
Two Rastafarians namely Oheneba Kwaku Nkrabea and Marghuy were denied admission into the Achimota School in March 2021 after they were placed in the schools through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

The school at the time said they would be admitted on the condition that they got rid of their dreadlocks which they opposed on the basis that it formed part of their religious belief.

Following this, the Rastafarians sued the Achimota School for denying them their right to education. The case presided over by Justice Gifty Adjei Addo in an Accra High Court ruled in their favour.

Though the ruling was later appealed by the School with the backing of the Attorney General, the earlier ruling was upheld.
