Eduwatch Explains Criminality In Cases Of KNUST and Okadjakrom SHS Heads’ Sexual Misconduct

Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) has shed more light on the criminal element in the alleged sexual misconduct of head teachers of KNUST Senior High School and Okadjakrom Senior Technical School.
Their actions, he said, fell within the purview of sexual exploitation under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
“Sexual exploitation is the act of taking advantage of another person for sexual purposes, often for monetary gain, abuse of power, or personal benefit. It usually occurs where one person holds superior influence or authority and uses it to manipulate or coerce another into sexual activity.
“Exploitation is less about age than it is about power and advantage; eg, a teacher–student relationship. Under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), sexual exploitation is a criminal offence in Ghana.”
He affirmed that the two instances fall within this scope and thereby asked, “Ghana Education Service, have the accused persons been arrested?”
The GES has, within one week, interdicted two head teachers after they were caught having sexual acts with female students.
