Don’t Think The NPP Guys Are Gone so It’s Time for NDCs; Lands Minister on Galamsey

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resource, Emmanuel Armah Buah has warned that no one will be shielded in the fight against illegal mining in forest reserves and water bodies.

Addressing the press in Parliament on Wednesday, he blankly affirmed the government’s commitment to the fight saying, “It is not as if the NPP guys who were doing these are gone and time for NDC guys”.

According to him, anyone found culpable in the clamp down to root out the menace will be dealt with.

“We are not here to shield anybody… We want to expose these bad guys. Anybody who is destroying our water bodies and forest reserves, basically making our future dim is a bad person. We must fight them together.”

He called on all Members of Parliament to join the fight in a patriotic move and eradicate partisanship.

Despite the government’s commitment, he indicated that it would be ineffective without concerted efforts from all MPs.

“I also took the opportunity to say that this fight cannot be a fight that can be waged by the Ministry of Lands. I made it clear that President Mahama has indicated his commitment to the political will be there but we can only do that with the people of Ghana and so we wanted to bring out the problem and to call for an honest engagement. It’s not a time for blame games. It’s not a time to decide who brought us here. We are here…I’m calling on all of us.”

“Coming next week we will have a conference and every member of  Parliament must have a leadership role in his constituency when it comes to its fight. Politics  must stop as the waters surge when it comes to our fight on galamsey.”

He further identified the role of the media in the fight.

“This is not the time for sensationalisation. You must get out to these places name, point, shame and bring out these people.”
