Don’t Run Ahead Of Yourself; Gabby Tells Media Over IMF Deal

Gabby Otchere Darko, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has admonished journalists and the media fraternity in Ghana to desist from publishing false information about the IMF intervention.

He was referring to publications in a section of the media to the effect that the government is adopting a debt restructuring option to get assistance from the Fund.

In a tweet, he intimated that the media might become “ the purveyors of fear and panic”.

“These are very sensitive times and negotiations on the best pill for Ghana’s ailing debt situation are only about to begin!”, he said.

His post came after the IMF Director of Communications, Gerry Rice during a press conference in Washington DC debunked speculations that Ghana is restructuring its debt.

He said the restructuring of Ghana’s debt will be dependent on the outcome of its Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA) Report according to a report by dailymailgh.com.

“When a country requests financing from the IMF, we assess whether the country’s policies are consistent with debt sustainability as one of our requirements. We still need to conduct a thorough update of the debt situation in Ghana through our Debt Sustainability Analysis,” Mr. Rice stressed according to Daily Mail Gh.
