DLVA Suspends Planned Rollout of New Licence Plates
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the suspension of a planned rollout of new licence plates.
The rollout was initially scheduled for January 2, 2026; however, it failed due to a failure to amend the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI. 2180), which called for the suspension.
“While Parliament successfully amended Act 683, the proposed amendments to LI. 2180 were not concluded before Parliament went on recess on Friday, December 19, 2025.”
It noted that anyone who wishes to register a vehicle in 2026 can do so at any of our regional offices; however, he/she would be required to re-register when the new licence plate is rolledout.
It also directed anyone with the DP sticker on their vehicle, as well as a DV plate on their vehicle, to continue to use them up to a time limit to be announced by the Authority in due course.
“DVLA further announces the extended use of the current Departure from Port (P) stickers as well as DV Plates.”
The new plates will have a new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) embedded to enhance traceability and promote road safety in line with modern technology.
“The Authority wishes to further inform the public that the new licence plate rollout plan will take effect as soon as the legislative requirements are settled.”
