Date For Counter Press Conference To NDC’s ‘True State Of Nation’ Set
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has picked Tuesday for its counter press conference to that of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC at the press conference on Monday, March 20, among other things, accused the government of corruption and reneging on a lot of the promises it made to Ghanaians.
It said the government is using the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war as a cover-up for its incompetence and mismanagement.
Speaking at the press conference dubbed the “True State of the Nation”, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said the government made an unprecedented windfall of GHC30 billion from Covid-19 aside from the Covid levy.
“According to the Auditor-General, only 11.7% of this amount (COVID fund) was spent on Covid-19 with a remainder of about GH₵18 billion being channelled into so-called budget support.”
He said the government channelled the GHC₵18 billion into election-related activities.
“The Covid-19 pandemic affected all countries in the world, including our next-door neighbours. Whereas these countries managed their resources prudently, thereby recording a deficit below 8% and a debt-to-GDP ratio below 65%, this government borrowed excessively and spent recklessly for election purposes. Thereby, recording a disastrous deficit of 15.7% and debt to GDP ratio of about 80% in 2020.”
The governing party in reaction to this described the press conference as a campaign platform and propaganda-filled in a press statement dated March 20 and signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
“The NDC turned the press conference into a campaign platform, peddling blatant falsehoods, unsubstantiated allegations and unprovoked attacks at the persons of the President, Vice President and the entire government of the NPP.”
It also announced a counter-press conference but failed to give details.
In a tweet, the National Organiser of the Party, Henry Nana Boakye, said the presser will be held on March 28 at 10 am.
He said the National Chairman of the Party, Stephen Ntim, will respond to the allegations by the opposition.
The National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim will on Tuesday 28th March at 10am respond with incontrovertible facts and figures to the blatant falsehood and vile propaganda churned out by the NDC's National Chairman Mr. Asiedu Nketia in his ‘false state of the nation address'.
