Coach Tanko Attributes Heavy Defeat To Limited Rest Time
Unlike Morocco and Guinea who had two days for their next matches, Ghana and Congo only had a day and the head coach of the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko, sees that as a contributing factor to their defeats on Tuesday.
In his justification, he said the Meteors showed signs of exhaustion at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat when they took on Morocco last night.
“It’s a deserved win for Morocco but we had a day’s rest and they had two days of rest. The players showed fatigue,” he said at a post-match press conference.
Referencing Congo’s defeat to Guinea to buttress his point, he said, “You saw how Congo also suffered the same fate because Guinea had an extra day to rest.”
But he is hopeful the two-day respire before their next match will help revive the players for a win against Guinea.
“Now we have two days before we play our next match and we will make good use of it”.
After a 3:2 win for Ghana on Sunday, they were thrashed by the hosts by 5:1- their first defeat in the Group stage of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
But Coach Tanko feels there is still enough chance for Ghana to qualify for the next stage.
“We still have a chance to qualify and we will work on it and try to get a win against Guinea.”
