Bukom Banku Hangs His Gloves
Braimah Isaac Kamoko known as Bukom Banku, has given meaning to his inaction in the boxing ring since his last fight in 2019.
In an interview, he said that he had retired, citing ageing and a medical condition relating to his eye.
“I’ve grown, and at the same time, my eye is also paining me, so I don’t want to fight again,” he told Okay FM.
The controversial boxer says he has now handed the baton over to his sons.
“Three of my children are boxers, so I’ve left everything for them. I’ve packed my gloves and my shoes, all for them: Abu Kamoko and Mustafa Kamoko. I’ve laid the path so they can continue.”
The 43-year-old who has engaged in 30 fights and lost just one intends to venture into skits and ambassadorship.
The former heavyweight champion rose to prominence after winning a bronze medal in the Heavyweight 1999 All-Africa Games organized in Johannesburg. He subsequently won other titles, including the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight title in 2011 and the WBO Africa Cruiserweight title in 2012.
In 2017, he recorded his first professional defeat at the hands of Bastie Samir in Accra but iced that with a knockout victory against Hungarian opponent Ferenc Albert in 2019, his last fight.
