Black Stars Is Now A Disgrace, Get a Good Technical Team; Asantehene to Sports Minister

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has waded into the poor form of Ghana’s senior national male team which has sunk from glory, calling for a better technical team to man it.
The King recognizes that unlike in times past when the Black Stars commanded respect at the continental and global levels, they have now become a laughing stock and an embarrassment.
At a meeting with the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, Otumfuo reflected on the team’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament which they exited at the Group stage and their failure to qualify for the 2025 competition.
“The Black Stars is now a disgrace. Get the team a good technical team to man it. It is not in good form currently, breaking people’s hearts always. They exited the last tournament quite earlier than expected.”
Additionally, Otumfuo called for the selection of committed players for the team.
“The right players must be called in. I have told them at Kotoko that good players must be allowed to play not those with some form of affiliation.”
The Minister was at the Palace on February 14, 2025, to seek the counsel and direction of His Majesty as he sets out on his Ministerial duties following his swearing-in last week.
“President Mahama has given me the mandate to head the Sports Ministry. I couldn’t just wake up and start. I need counsel and direction especially as FIFA has restrained us from interfering so much in sports. I will need your direction on which areas to touch.”
He said that the state of the country’s sport was so dire that he needed counsel from His Majesty in order to succeed, adding that all past Presidents had tapped into the wisdom of the King to effortlessly run the country.
