Black Queens Paid Outstanding Bonuses

The Black Queens are expected to give their utmost best against the Copper Queens tomorrow after being paid their outstanding bonuses by the Ministry of Youth and Sports today.

The Queens are reported to have received cheques of $7,500 each this afternoon.

The players had threatened to boycott the third round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifier slated for tomorrow at the Accra Sports Stadium due to the arrears, a development that attracted public backlash for the GFA and the Ministry for their apparent neglect of the welfare of the in-form female national team.

This necessitated a joint visit by the President of the FA, Simeon-Okraku, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, Deputy Sports Minister Evans Bobie and Management Committee Chairperson Gifty Oware Mensah to the camp of the players on Wednesday during which the Queens were assured payment before the game.

Coach Hauptle’s side received cheques of $7,500 accrued from three outstanding matches on February 22.

The Black Queens will lock horns with the Copper Queens in the first leg of the third round after their emphatic wins against Guinea and Benin in the first two rounds.

Zambia will host the return leg on February 28 in Ndola.
