Black Princesses Get New Addition to Post Keepers

Jenna Kayla Sapong is the new girl to join Yussif Basigi’s fold for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

The Auburn University soccer team goalkeeper is steadily training with the rest of the squad for the tournament which kick-starts on August 31, 2024.

A video of the newbie training posted on the official X page of the Ghana Women National Team said she “is settling in well with the squad”.

“Jenna Kayla Sapong joins our goalkeeping department,” it announced.

She was previously with youth development platform Girl’s Academy in the United States of America from where she joined Tophat Soccer Club.

Sapong before joining her new soccer team won the All-Region Soccer Player twice and Sapong was named the Titans’ MVP during the 2021-22 season as well as the runner-up for the Region 5 Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

With her select squad, Tophat Soccer Club, Sapong served as a team captain for three seasons and was the Girls Academy (GA) Advisory Panel Representative from 2020-2022.

The Black Princesses will be making their seventh consecutive appearance at the biennial tournament.

Ghana are housed in Group E alongside Austria, New Zealand and Japan. The U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup will end on September 22, 2024

The squad are Afi Amenyaku, Debra Brown, Amina Ahamadu, Huzeeiman Osman, Afishatu Issah, Najaat Salam as goalkeepers; and Comfort Yeboah, Fatimata Fuseini, Opoku Anoma Abena, Afishatu Mohammed, Sarah Kulible, Afia Twumwaa, Abiba Issa, Hannah Nyame, Comfort Owusu and Faiza Abdul Rashid as Defenders

Also included are Stella Nyame, Wassima Mohammed, Tracey Twum, Berlin Nyarkoh, Asana Alhassan, Success Amenyaa, Sarah Nyarko, Jaqueline Amponsah, Deborah Annoh and Jennifer Owusuaa for the Midfield while Princess Owusu, Salamatu Abduai, Rita Moussa, Asantewaa Angela, Mary Amponsah, Agnes Yeboah, Mercy Attobrah, Jennifer Dawah and Abigail Sakyiwaa are Attackers.
