Asawase: Ashanti REGSEC Updates Security Measures After Killing of Two

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has updated security measures to safeguard lives after two people were shot dead at Asawase in Kumasi last week.
The measures include a ban on the use of motorbikes on the road between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.; a ban on pillion riders during permissible hours; prohibition of motorbike riders from wearing smocks, bulky jackets, or three-piece outfits; and a ban on the use of unregistered or unlicensed motorbikes.
The Council has also restricted commuters from carrying any weapons, whether licensed or unlicensed, in cars or on motorcycles until further notice.
The REGSEC further indicated that there will be a heightened Police and Military visibility, including barriers and random stop-and-search checkpoints.
It therefore urged the public to cooperate fully with security personnel as these measures are for their collective safety.
On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri, Abdul-Malik Azenbe, around 9 pm was killed by unknown assailants at Asawase.
Three days later, an unidentified man was also shot dead in the same community.
