Arrest Persons Behind Akoti Health Centre Violence- GHS to Police

The Ghana Health Service has demanded the immediate arrest of persons behind the assault of a patient over the weekend at the Akoti Health Centre in the Assin Fosu District of the Central Region.
It wants a prompt investigation into the incident and enhanced police visibility and security support at the centre after health workers threatened to abandon their posts.
“These measures are critical to restoring confidence among health workers and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential health services without fear or intimidation,” it said in a statement as it condemned all acts of violence within health facilities in the region.
It noted that health institutions are neutral spaces dedicated solely to the preservation of life, adding that any attack on clients or health workers is unacceptable and undermines the safety, confidence, and effective functioning of the healthcare system.
Assuring the public about its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of health workers, patients and visitors across all health facilities, it pledged to forge the needed alliance with security agencies and other stakeholders to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
Attack
It was reported that on January 11, 2026, two injured persons were rushed to the health centre from Assin Wurakese for treatment following injuries sustained from an alleged assault.
In the course of treatment, the alleged assailant also arrived at the facility to seek medical attention.
Subsequently, a group of individuals stormed the health centre, wielding offensive weapons and violently assaulted the alleged assailant within the premises.
