Andre Onana, Victor Osimhen Nominated For 2023 FIFA Awards
African football stars Andre Onana and Victor Osimhen have been nominated in the 2023 Best FIFA Football Awards, organized by the world football governing body International Association Football Federation (FIFA).
The two Africans together with Morocco’s Yassine Bounou found themselves among the 52 nominees for this year’s awards.
Cameroon and Manchester United first-choice goalie Andre Onana was named among the nominated five goalkeepers for the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper category.
He will be competing with Moroccan Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois, Ederson and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Meanwhile, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was nominated for the Best FIFA Men’s Player alongside Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Julian Alvarez, Marcelo Brozovic, Erling Haaland and seven others.
In all, there are seven categories to be won. They include The Best FIFA Women’s Player, The Best FIFA Men’s Player, The Best FIFA Women’s Coach, The Best FIFA Men’s Coach, The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper, The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper and The FIFA Fan Award.
Last year, Lionel Messi took The Best FIFA Men’s Player with Alexia Putellas bagging The Best FIFA Women’s Player. The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper went out to Emiliano Martinez and The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper to England’s sensation Mary Earps.
Lionel Scaloni and Sarina Wiegman were named The Best FIFA Men’s Coach and The Best FIFA Women’s Coach respectively.
