‘Andre Ayew Is Not Needed in the Black Stars Anymore’ – Ignatius Osei Fosu

Sudan assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu believes Andre Ayew should consider stepping away from the Ghana national team squad despite his recent return to competitive club football.
Osei-Fosu questioned the need for the experienced forward in the current setup, insisting that it may be the right moment for the veteran attacker to focus solely on his club career.
“He might be a very, very good player,” he said. “But you ask yourself in this current setup, is he needed?”
“Is he needed? For me, no. Dede is my man, but for me, you leave when the applause is high.”
The Ghanaian coach, who currently serves as assistant coach of Sudan behind compatriot Kwesi Appiah, added that Ayew should consider stepping aside while he still commands respect and admiration.
“Dede himself should let it go and then focus on his club football,” he added.
Osei-Fosu also referenced Italian legend Francesco Totti, who once decided to step away from Italy duty to concentrate on his club career.
“That’s why I like these white people. Francesco Totti at certain point said no to Italy and told them he want to focus on club football.”
Ayew, 36, scored his first goal for NAC Breda over the weekend in their thrilling 3-3 draw against giants and second-place Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside 1966 champions England, 2018 finalists Croatia and Panama.
The Black Stars will be regrouping very soon to play Austria and Germany in the upcoming March international window. They face Mexico in April and wrap up with Wales in June.
