Abu Trica and Co-Accused Taken into NACOC Custody after Court Discharge

The Narcotic Control Commission (NACOC) is reported to have taken Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, and his co-accused into custody following their discharge by the Gbese District Court on Monday.
This was confirmed by a member of their legal counsel, who said he was yet to find out the cause of the move during a media interview.
“I believe it’s for administrative purposes, so whatever transpires there, I will let you know.”
It comes after NACOC officials reportedly attempted to rearrest them inside the courtroom, infuriating the judge.
Abu Trica was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office with the intent of being extradited to the United States to face criminal charges in December 2025.
EOCO said the arrest was the result of months of intelligence gathering and investigations conducted jointly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Narcotics Control Commission, the International Criminal Police Organisation, the National Investigations Bureau, the Cyber Security Authority and the Office of the Attorney General.
According to the statement, “Abu Trica” was part of a network that targeted elderly victims in the United States through romance scams, using Artificial Intelligence software to assume false identities online.
The perpetrators allegedly formed close personal and romantic relationships with victims before deceiving them into parting with money and valuables.
