Stay Away From Essumegya; Dormaahene Warned
The Essumegya Traditional Council has warned Nana Agyemang Badu II, the Omanhene of Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region to stay away from the enstoolment of Nana Okyere Kusi Aduako II, Paramount Chief of Essumegya.
It must be recalled that barely a week ago, the Dormaahene was heard in a video which has since gone viral on social media that Otumfuo has no authority to impose a Chief on Essumegya. He insisted that he, being the Aduana Piesie is the right person to appoint a successor to the Essumegya throne.
He was also heard issuing a two-week ultimatum to the Essumegya Traditional Council to do the needful or he would personally storm the community to expose them on the rightful heir to the throne.
Responding to Nana Agyemang Badu’s comments at an emergency Council Meeting at the Essumegya Palace on Monday 9th May 2022, the Essumegya Senior Linguist, Nana Kwadwo Nketia narrated the circumstances leading to the appointment of Nana Okyere Kusi Aduako II as the new Chief for the community, describing the process as transparent and satisfactory.
He indicated that the new Chief has been unanimously endorsed by the Essumegya Traditional Council and the entire community. After 19 years, he says they are happy that at last, their struggles and cry for a new Chief is answered.
Nana Akuoko Kwarteng who is the Essumegya Nkosuohene issued a stern warning to Dormaahene, urging him to stay away from matters relating to Assumeja and their newly sworn-in Chief. He described Nana Agyemang Badu’s comments as unfortunate and unworthy of his status as a Chief who ought to accord utmost respect to traditional authority.
He believes that the Dormaahene is expressing bitterness for not being invited for the enstoolment ceremony. He insisted that Nana Agyemang Badu has no jurisdiction whatsoever to overturn the appointment and enstoolment of Nana Okyere Kusi Aduako II.
Head of Aduana Family Claim
According to the Council, Nana Agyemang Badu claimed to be the head of the Aduana family in Ghana (Aduana Piesie).
This claim according to the Essumegya Kontihene, Nana Ntim Banahene is false. He argues that Asantemanso, the origin of the 8 Akan clans is located in Essumegya, making Essumegya Chief the head of the Aduana family (Aduana Piuesie).
Nana Ntim Banahene was emphatic that the entire Dormaa Traditional Council is not happy with the conduct of their Chief and that they are not in support of his comments. He, therefore, advised him to find means to render an unqualified apology to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II if he wants to be admitted back into the Asanteman Traditional Council.
Ultimatum.
In the said video, Nana Agyemang Badu was said to have issued a two-week ultimatum to the Essumegya Traditional Council to overturn the decision otherwise he would personally storm the community.
Nana Ntim Banahene challenged him saying if he is really the man he claims to be, he should honour his words as the Essumegya Traditional Council is ready to face him.
Resolution
Members of the entire Essumegya Traditional Council led by Nana Ntim Banahene (Kontihene), Nana Kwadwo Nyarko (Ankobeahene), Nana Akuoko Kwarteng (Nkosuohene) and Nana Kwadwo Nketia (Akyeamehene). The rests, Nana Owusu Korkor (Sanaahene), Nana Kyeame Bonsu, Nana Kyei Mensah (Assumeja Kyekyewerehene), and Nana Kwame Antwi (Betinkohene) in a unanimous voice says they are excited and solidly behind the newly sworn-in Paramount Chief, Nana Okyere Kusi Aduako II.
They said the entire community and Traditional Area are happy that they now have a new Chief after 19 years of hardship and suffering. They have hence warned Nana Agyemang Badu to stay away from matters relating to Essumegya or risk their wrath.
