To Hide Behind The Pulpit To Go After The NDC And Mahama Is Unacceptable; Eduzi To Methodist Bishop
Aide to former president John Dramani Mahama, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe has stated that it is unacceptable to hide behind the pulpit as a Bishop to go after the NDC as a party and John Dramani Mahama as an individual.
He made the assertion in relation to Bishop Stephen Richard Bosomtwe Ayensu of the Methodist Church’s message to the former President John Dramani Mahama, saying he should desist from politics because he cannot win the 2024 election.
Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe narrated that, Bishop Bosomtwe wanted the position of Chaplain General of the Ghana Police at the time when the Late Prof. John Evans Attah Mills was the Vice President and chairman of the Police Council but was denied the opportunity. He said, this made him consistently criticize and attacked the late Attah-Mills even on his public given title “Asomdwehene” until his demise.
Lawyer Edudzi said, the denial of the position has caused the Bishop to accumulate hatred for the NDC and John Mahama in extension which is not fair.
Speaking on taxation the lawyer said, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a party does not seem to oppose taxation.
According to him, taxation is not bad and the party NDC is not in opposition to the introduction of taxes or new taxes as in the case of the E-Levy.
The lawyer was speaking in relation to Bishop Bosomtwe of the Methodist church’s comment that, John Mahama’s claim to repeal E-levy after resuming office as president in 2024 a deception.
The lawyer noted that, the NDC introduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) and some others which is a clear indication that the NDC is never in opposition to any form of a tax but the case of the E-Levy does not accord with the current economic situation in the country as it applies to all digital transaction platforms.
This is the area the NDC has a problem with and has shown the concern to repeal it if it is voted into power in 2024, he added.
