Transport Fares To Go Up By 30% Effective Tomorrow
The Private Commercial Transport Operators has declared a 30% increment in transport fares effective Friday, February 18, 2022, following a steady rise in fuel prices.
The association in a communique noted that the increment has become necessary to save their transport business from collapsing with the frequent upward adjustments in fuel prices.
It pointed out that a gallon of fuel which used to sell at the pump for GHC 27 cedis, has now jumped to almost GHC 36 cedis.
Describing the government’s negotiation with the Coalition of Private Commercial Transport Operators- the interim mother umbrella for some private driver unions in the country- as a “marathon negotiation”, the association disclosed that “while we the operators are calling for a 30% increase in transport fares, the government has put on the table 10%. As a result, the negotiation ended inconclusively and is expected to continue tomorrow, 18th February 2022.”
Meanwhile, fuel prices have been recently increased by about 30 pesewas per litre and now selling at some of the major filling stations at the price of GHC 7.990 per litre, the press release jointly signed by Chairman of Ghana Committed Drivers Association, Charles Danso, Chairman of the National Concern Drivers Association, Paa Willie, PRO of the National Concern Drivers Association, David Agboado and PRO for True Drivers Union, Yaw Barima said.
The Private Commercial Transport Operators says it constitutes 12 out of the 16 driver unions on the Coalition of Private Commercial Transport Operators.
