Jordan Ayew to Captain Black Stars in Upcoming AFCON Qualifiers
In the last round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Leicester City winger Jordan Ayew is billed to captain the Black Stars, unconfirmed reports suggest.
It comes after he ironed out his differences with head coach, Otto Addo following their fallout in the last round over a disagreement, reports say.
The 33-year-old is said to have held talks with Otto Addo.
Jordan reportedly refused to take the captain’s band in the last two games against Sudan after captain Thomas Partey was ruled out over an injury/illness.
He subsequently confronted the head coach over his formation in the last leg of the game against Sudan which saw him benched after the first half. It was reported at the time that it took the intervention of former head coach James Kwesi Appiah to restrain him from walking out of the stadium before the end of the game.
Meanwhile, in both games last month, West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus shouldered the responsibility of the captain.
The 24-year-old issued a statement to apologise and promise a remedy for their draw and loss to Sudan in the aftermath.
The Black Stars will be at it again in mid-November when they face Angola on November 15 and Niger on November 18 as they are on the verge of not qualifying for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years.
But coach Otto Addo says he is bent on preying on the little chance left to salvage the situation.
