Reconsider Your Strike Action; Health Ministry to Laboratory Workers
The Ministry of Health has called on the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union (MELPWU), to reconsider their decision to strike, appealing for a suspension of the action which has entered its second day to make way for expedited negotiations over their conditions of service.
The union which laid down their tools and departed their various work places on June 17, 2024, are demanding finalization of their proposed Conditions of Service with the Government
The Ministry in a statement assured of the needed commitment towards the negotiation.
“We appeal to the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers to exercise patience as the Government Negotiation Team, supported by the Ministry, expedites the negotiations to enable MELPWU to call off its strike. To the Union (MELPWU), please be assured of our utmost cooperation and respect for your dedication to your members’ welfare.”
It noted that consensus had been reached on majority of the items proposed by MELPWU with the proposed Uniform, Special Project, Unsociable, and Communication allowances still under review.
“The Ministry can confirm that negotiations are ongoing and therefore appeal to MELPWU Ieadership to reconsider its decision to strike and return to the negotiation table with the Government Negotiation Teams, which include the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.”
