Live Peacefully with new Chief; Otumfuo to Akokofe Baapanin

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has instructed the Obaapanyin of Akokofe in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Amankwaa Ababio to create a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for Nana Osako Adu Panin, the newly enstooled chief to undertake his mandate or fall on the sword.

The instruction comes on the back of failed attempts by the female leader to get her choice to take over the stool which was rendered vacant after the demise of the last chief.

Otumfuo indicated that she earned her current position being a non-royal after proving herself worthy through service and therefore she has no authority to elect a candidate for the Akokofe stool- a stance she had, to no avail, tried opposing.

“You are not a royal and so you have no right to choose a candidate to be enstooled and you are fully aware of this. You deserve to be destooled for your action but I will pardon you. Go and live peacefully with the new chief. If you prove to be an obstacle to him then you will have to leave.”

Otumfuo said this when Nana Osako Adu Panin, alongside the Baapanin, the stool elders and the Abusuapanin made an appearance before him to request to take the oath of allegiance on April 8, 2024.

For the umpteenth time in the presence of the Kumasi Traditional Council, His Majesty avowed his commitment to restore all misplaced stools to rightful royal families and true heirs.

“My reign for the past 25 years has been directed at restoring royals to stools. I will not in any way compromise at that.”

Meanwhile, he charged the new chief to be a unifying force in the town.

“Rule with humility and be a unifier. Set your mind to do just that which is right and appropriate.”
