Kotoko In Fresh Trouble With GFA
Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have found themselves on the wrong side of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following their 23rd season game against Nations FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
They have been charged with breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019 after their supporters allegedly behaved inappropriately towards the match officials of the game.
The charges also referenced a social media post by the Club suspected of dragging the game into disrepute.
“Kotoko have until Wednesday, March 27 2024 to respond to the charges,” a notice to the Porcupines said.
Attacks
Supporters of the club are reported to have attempted to attack the officiating referee in the middle of the game as they felt his work fell short of the standard.
Meanwhile, a post by the club during the game read, “The referee wants to be a celebrity.”
Condemnation
Kotoko have so far condemned the action of the supporters in a statement.
“Asante Kotoko SC condemns the detestable conduct of some persons whose actions yesterday in our Premier League Matchday 23 against Nations FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium went contrary to what this prestigious club stands for.
“It must be noted that under no circumstance will Asante Kotoko condone any act that violates and undermines the sporting integrity of the game.”
It disclosed steps have been taken to address and find a lasting solution to the recurrence.
That notwithstanding, it implored the FA to address concerns surrounding officiating, safety and security amongst others which tend to undermine the integrity of the game on all levels.
“Our call is not only for Kotoko but as a beacon of Ghana’s football heritage, there is the need to ensure the game is accorded the seriousness it deserves by all stakeholders in the quest to push our football to the expected heights.”
Nations Loss
Kotoko suffered their fifth defeat since the league break out of six games played.
They have lost to the likes of Accra Lions, Aduana Stars, Bibiani Goldstars and Kpando Heart of Lions.
At home on Sunday, they lost to Nations FC by 1-0 with a goal ruled out as an offside. They are currently behind arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak with 32 points.
