Officer Dies After Fainting At Independence Day Celebration

A Senior Non-Commissioned Officer with the Ghana Air Force identified as Flight Sergeant (F/SGT) Armah Nii Okai Mensah Alfred, has passed on after collapsing during the national Independence Day Celebration last Wednesday.

The news was confirmed in a statement by the Air Force on Friday, March 8, 2024.

He was among 72 persons who reportedly collapsed at the event at the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre but succumbed at a medical facility while receiving treatment.

 

According to the Force, he was acting as the Supernumerary for the Air Force Male Contingent on parade during the 67th Independence Day parade when he collapsed.

“The sad event occurred at the Koforidua Government Hospital where he was receiving treatment after he collapsed during the 67th Independence Day Anniversary Parade. F/Sgt Armah was a hardworking, respectful and professional Airman.”

In a tribute, the Force said he was diligent and highly proficient in his chosen career and his absence would be sorely missed.

The family of the deceased has been formally informed about the unfortunate incident, according to the release.

“We convey our deepest sympathies to all, especially the deceased family and we entreat all to respect the privacy of the family of the late Senior Non-Commissioned Officer during this difficult period,” it added.

It was reported that a total of 72 people collapsed during the event attended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Adoo and other dignitaries on March 6, 2024.

Among them were six soldiers, five policemen, seven prison officers, six fire officers, two immigration officers and 44 students.
