Heavy Duty Vehicles Barred From Using Doli Bridge
The Savannah Regional Security Council has barred Heavy Duty Vehicles from using the Doli bridge in either accessing the northern or the southern sectors of the country.
This follows an articulated truck accident on the bridge on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, blocking access by other vehicles.
In a statement, it was communicated that the Regional Security Council and the Ghana Highways Authority reached the decision after an advice from the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
It has directed Techiman-Wa bound articulated vehicles and cargo trucks (Heavy Duty Vehicles) to use Techiman-Kintampo-Fufulso (Damongo Junction) road through Damongo to Sawla.
Meanwhile, Wa-Techiman bound articulated vehicles and cargo trucks are to go through Sawla – Damongo to Fufulso (Damongo Junction).
The new measure will be in place until further notice, the statement said on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Doli Bridge Destruction
The Doli bridge, which links the Upper West Region and the southern part of Ghana, was washed away by heavy rain on September 17, 2023 cutting the Northern part of the country from the South.
The Ministry of Roads announced the opening of the road after temporary repairs on the bridge on September 28.
It, however, warned that only small vehicles, tricycle and pedestrian can use the road.
On October 4, it was reported that an articulated truck blocked the road following an accident.
