Ahafo Kenyasi No.1 Paramount Chief Destools His Gyaasehene Over Galamsey

The Paramount Chief of Kenyasi Number One in the Asutifi North District in the Ahafo Region, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri has destooled his Gyaasehene, Nana Kwabena Adu Boahen, for his engagement in illegal mining activities.

He was destooled on September 6, 2023, during a public hearing of the cases levelled against him.

The spokesperson of the paramount chief said his destoolment follows a forewarning to all traditional rulers in Kenyasi Number One after a directive by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom last year.

Per the charges, the Gyaasehene was single-handedly engaged in apportioning lands in the town to illegal miners as well as duping a woman. He is said to have taken a huge sum of money from the woman with the promise of a car she never received.

But while announcing his destoolment, it was noted that his engagement in illegal mining was the principal reason.

“You have been giving out lands for galamsey…When community mining was introduced, all were encouraged to take advantage of it so how come Gyaasehene is now allotting lands for galamsey,” spokesperson of the paramount chief said.

He said illegal mining had rendered a road linking Abesim unmotorable.

“Let’s go and take a look if you want. We tell the truth not lies. We pour libation to stools and so implications of lying will befall us when we lie. Galamsey has dominated public discourse for a long time but after the stern warning from Otumfuo, he (Nana Osei Kofi Abiri) also publicly issued a notice that anyone who engages in the act will be destooled.”

Asantehene during the launch of the 2023 Green Ghana Day said all chiefs who will be found culpable in illegal mining will have to answer to him after a planned tour.
