Kudus Joins West Ham Becoming 3rd Ghanaian To Play For The Club

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has signed for English Premier League side West Ham in a €45m package deal.

The former AFC Ajax forward will be with the Irons for five years during which he will wear the number 14 jersey.

His move was confirmed by West Ham in a statement on Sunday, August 27, 2023, after what it says was an intense fight to seal his move.

“West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Mohammed Kudus.”

The 23-year-old is the Club’s fourth major summer signing following Mexico’s Edson Álvarez, Greece defender Dinos Mavropanos and England midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

He is also the third Ghanaian to join West Ham after John Paintsil in August 2006 and André Ayew in August 2016.

During his three-year stay at Ajax, Kudus made 144 appearances and scored 41 goals. In the 2022/2023 campaign, he scored 18 goals plus seven assists.

Kudus has expressed his delight in the move calling it a dream come true.

“I’ve been dreaming of playing in a league like this since I was a kid…I’ve been dreaming of this moment and I’m so happy to be here. But it doesn’t stop here, I want to keep going.

“I try my best to entertain the fans as I think that’s what football is all about. I’m just here to do my best and help the team. I’m really happy to be here. I will fight for the badge. I can’t wait to get started.”
