All Recorded Incidents Under Investigation- Police On Assin North By-election
The Ghana Police Service has opened investigations into all criminal incidents that transpired during Tuesday’s by-election in the Assin North Constituency, a press statement notes.
It said there were “pockets” of incidents including an alleged shooting incident.
It also confirmed that some persons have been arrested in relation to these incidents but gave no further information on them.
It was reported that five persons including two who impersonated security personnel were arrested.
The police, however, failed to address reports of an arrested officer over bribery during the election.
There was also a reported shooting at one polling station but according to the police, it was an alleged warning shot.
“The Police, however, recorded pockets of incidents, including an alleged incident of an individual shooting into the air. We wish to state that no person or vehicle has been shot at within the constituency.”
“All the recorded incidents are being investigated and Police have also arrested some suspects who are in custody assisting our investigation,” the statement added.
Ahead of the election, the police gave assurances that adequate security measures were in place to maintain law and order.
