Dr. Afriyie Akoto Pays Tribute to Late S. G. Antor, Highlights UP Tradition’s Legacy
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a prominent flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), honored the late S. G. Antor, a Founding Member of the United Party (UP) Tradition, and acknowledged his remarkable role in shaping Ghana’s political landscape.
Describing S. G. Antor as a giant in the establishment of the UP Tradition, Dr. Afriyie Akoto highlighted his collaboration with his late father, Baffour Osei Akoto, and other patriotic individuals who fought to liberate Ghana from oppressive rule.
Reflecting on their personal connection, he fondly recalled S. G. Antor’s visits to their home in Kumasi, emphasizing his lasting impact on Ghana’s political development and his place in history. He expressed deep respect for the fallen hero and believed it was only fitting to pay homage to him.
S. G. Antor, notably the Secretary of Togoland Congress, played an instrumental role in the formation and advancement of the UP Tradition.
He shared his sentiments during an interaction with NPP members in the Volta Region, including former Regional Chairmen, constituency executives, and polling station executives, where he outlined his vision to lead the party. This gathering served as an opportunity to reinforce his commitment to upholding the principles of the UP Tradition.
In a poignant tribute, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and party stalwarts in the region later laid a wreath in remembrance of the late S. G. Antor, paying their respects to his enduring legacy.
Having honored S. G. Antor, he called upon NPP faithful to support his bid for the flagbearership, emphasizing his deep-rooted dedication to the party. He highlighted the forthcoming party contest scheduled for November 4th, urging party members to rally behind him as he aspires to lead the NPP into a future guided by the values and principles of the UP Tradition.
As the son of Baffour Osei Akoto, a close political ally of S. G. Antor, Dr. Afriyie Akoto expressed his expectation of receiving the same support that was extended to the National Liberation Movement, the Northern Peoples Party, the Trans Volta Togoland Party, and other parties that joined forces to form the United Party, the foundation from which the NPP emerged.
With deep respect for the legacy of S. G. Antor and a firm belief in his own vision for the party, Dr. Afriyie Akoto appealed for the support and votes of NPP members, as he passionately strives to carry forward the ideals and aspirations of the UP Tradition.
