We Are For Peace Until You Touch Us; Hannah Bissiw Warns Ahead Of 2024 Polls
The National Women’s Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Louisa Hannah Bissiw, has described the 2024 general elections as a “defence of Ghana’s second independence”.
Addressing the press during the primaries of the party at Asunafo North in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, she vowed the turn of events at some polling stations during the 2020 elections will not recur.
“We are not going for election in 2024, we are rather going to defend our victory. It will be the defence of the second independence of mother Ghana. It’s a call to duty so we will go out and do it aggressively.”
“Mother Ghana is crying out blood because she is sad. In 2024 we will wipe out that…We want to send out a message to those who voted for us last four years that what happened will not repeat itself, {I swear}.”
Additionally, she said, “We are for peace until you touch us. If you touch us, it will be boot-for-boot. We will make sure that the right thing is done and the right result is transmitted. No one can intimidate us. If the government makes it smooth for us, we will also make it peaceful for them.
“There is no way I will file a complaint with the police about violence again. The police didn’t give birth to me. I will retaliate all violence with violence. I also have a well-built bodyguard. We will take out a knife if you bring out one. We will pull out a gun if you pull out a gun and the same with a stick.”
She further called on the government for a smooth and democratic process in the lead-up to the elections.
“The process must be smooth and we want to tell the government that this is not a military country. Don’t militarise the elections of Ghana. Peace Council must begin to engage the government.”
Her comment has attracted mixed reactions from social media users; as some praised her for her bravery, others condemned it.
“I love your submission, brilliant woman.”
“This is a true talk, now the law does not protect everybody.”
“Bring ur family back to Ghana so that we all vote together.”
“Mmmm Such people their children are in safe hand , rather prefers others children to defend them because of printed paper (money)…mmmmm ”
“NDC is going to loose because of these characters.”
“Mo de3 every second biaa na mo preachi violence . Mon Hw3 bribi yie oo hmm. Keep intimidating others saa , na you will get what you’re actually looking for . Don’t incite others to cause chaos , na the country don’t belong to you .”
Former President John Dramani Mahama will be leading the NDC into the Presidential election next year.
